Rare N.S. Meyer Communications Branch Insignia

Offered is an unusual mid-20th century communications-related collar insignia manufactured by N.S. Meyer Inc., New York. The badge features crossed signal flags, a central lightning bolt, a telephone handset, and a telecommunications/electronic communications symbol. The reverse is marked N.S. MEYER INC. NEW YORK and retains both original clutch-back posts. N.S. Meyer was a well-known military insignia manufacturer that produced insignia for U.S. and other organizations. 

Research indicates this piece is not the standard U.S. Army Signal Corps branch insignia and does not match the documented U.S. Army Signal School crest. The design instead appears to represent communications or telecommunications services through its combination of signal flags, telephone, and electrical communications imagery. 

The exact organization remains unidentified. Similar symbolism is associated with military Transmissions (Comunicaciones/Transmisiones) branches used by several Spanish-speaking armed forces, where crossed signal flags and lightning bolts are traditional communications symbols.
